Arts Engine (www.artsengine.net): supports, produces and distributes independent media of consequence and promotes the use of independent media by advocates, educators and the general public. Arts Engine will also serve as a fiscal sponsor for independent filmmakers who need a 501c3 umbrella to receive funding for their projects.

The Freechild Project ( www.freechild.org ): Publications, software programs, websites and other tools to assist young media makers. This website also includes a listing of dozens of youth media programs around the country, contact information for the major media outlets around the country, and major national and international news sources.

Hokan Media Productions’ Digital Filmmaking Academy ( 928-726-6244): Hokan Media Productions collaborates with tribal communities to teach digital filmmaking. Helping to empower Native American youth through digital storytelling, the Academy helps youth to stimulate public dialogue, encourage social change and circulate underrepresented stories. The Academy features hands-on workshops and the creation of a film that is screened in the community.

Listen Up! (www.listenup.org) - Youth media network that connects young video producers and their allies to resources, support and projects in order to develop the field and achieve authentic youth voice in the mass media. Youth filmmakers can access extensive information on new production tools, fundraising, distribution, legal issues and sources for research. Organizations joining the network are able to showcase their youth-made films on their own page within the website, access production tools and get help with distribution of their participants’ work.

National Youth in Radio Training Project (NYRTP) ( http://www.nfcb.org/projects/nyrtp/index.jsp ): A program of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, the NYRTP provides training to youth and adults involved in youth radio programs. They have also published a manual – Let A Thousand Voices Speak – that provides models for developing youth radio programs, sample curricula, lessons learned, technical information and resources. Another NYRTP manual helps youth radio programs learned how to webcast or stream audio on the internet.

Next Generation Press (www.nextgenerationpress.org): A project of What Kids Can Do ( www.whatkidscando.org ), Next Generation Process publishes books written by youth (with or without an adult co-author) as a means of publicizing youth views on adolescents’ lives, learning and work.

Pan Left Productions ( www.panleft.org ): Located in Tucson, Pan Left works with small and large progressive organizations, artists, musicians, and others to communicate effectively for themselves using multimedia. They create and distribute videos that educate and expose viewers to social, political and cultural issues. Through their Community Visions Program, Pan Left puts the tools of production into the hands of people who are not equally represented in the mainstream media. They support do-it-yourself media by offering production equipment and technical assistance at a reduced cost for those wanting to create their own social justice video.

Teen Ink ( www.teenink.org /resources ) - Extensive resources on writing, art & photography, issues research, reference materials and publishing opportunities.

WITNESS (www.witness.org): WITNESS provides trainings in the use of video for human rights and social justice advocacy.

Youth Media Distribution Inc. (www.ymdi.org): YMDI, a project of Arts Engine (www.artsengine.net) strives to improve the distribution of independent youth created film, video, radio and new media. YMDI helps young filmmakers find their audience by providing information and tools that are essential to increasing the visibility of youth made media. Young filmmakers can access an extensive Youth Video Distribution Toolkit. The website also contains a calendar of events/festivals, jobs and internship listings, and contest and grant opportunities.

Youth Media Exchange ( http://www.socialtext.net/youth-media-exchange/index.cgi ): Provides free media publishing tools and a “creative commons and open publishing platform” for young media-makers worldwide. Its purpose is to make it easy for any youth media organization to empower its members to publish their work online and for the best of that work to get mainstream exposure.

Youth Media Reporter (www.ymreporter.org): A website for youth media professionals.

Youth Views ( www.pbs.org/pov/utils/youthviews.html ): A program of the Public Broadcasting Services, this program offers models for doing civic engagement work through youth media programs. Also makes youth-produced films available to support youth development work, including a guide on how to conduct local screenings and discussions about their films.
